Hermida travelled to Castilla region to participate in the first two rounds of the Ciclocross Spanish Cup. On Sunday, he faced a tough circuit designed at the Parque del Mediodía in the city of Valladolid. Right from the start, the rider from Puigcerdà took control of the race and opened a gap, but in one of the walking areas, he had a problem with his chain and he was caught by the chasing group. Laps went by with a 6-men leading group that became less numerous as kilometers went by. Finally, with 3 laps to go, Hermida attacked and went away for a solo victory that gave him the leadership in the Spanish Cup.

Next day, with almost no time to rest, riders moved to Villaralbo (Zamora) to race in the second round of the championship. Hermida lost some postions in the first curve, due to a crash. He was around the 12th position. From there on, the Multivan-Merida rider could move to the front, aware of how important it was to be in the first positions in such a flat circuit. The pace was high and demanding for all, so some gaps were going to be created. Finally, 3 riders were ruling the race: Hermida, Murgoitio and Larinaga. In one of the toughest climbs Larinaga lost contact, what Hermida and Murgoitio got benefit from and decided to push. Hermida left the protagonism to Murgoitio, who took control and commanded the race with a strong pace. With two laps to go, Hermida attacked and went away alone, getting his second victory in the Spanish Cup and expanding his leadership in the national championship.

“I am very happy. People think that winning is easy, but it is not at all. I enjoy bike riding and I value each and every win I get. On Saturday I won my first race in the Spanish National Cup. It was very special. I could not finish my season in a better way. Now I do can say that I am on holidays”, explained Hermida after the race.

Hermida will enjoy now 15 days of total rest, before starting to prepare the 2010 season.
