In the fight for the WC in Champéry

Jose Antonio Hermida arrived yesterday afternoon from the Worlds held in Canberra (Australia). With not much time to spend at home, Hermida must prepare his luggage in order to leave tomorrow to Champéry (Switzerland), where the penultimate World Cup will be held this weekend.
The international season is ending, but it is not the moment for relax yet. Hermida is second in the WC general standings and he still has some possibilities to win the competition. It is very difficult, but as long as there are mathematical chances (only 4 riders can still win), Hermida will fight until the last moment. Moreover, his rivals are chasing him really close, so each position and point is very valuous.
This is why today Hermida faces this race as the mos important competition in the year: “I have to be focused. The season is long and the trip to Australia is tiring. We have had a very peculiar calendar in this 2009. However, it is important to stay focused and keep motivation, regardless of how tired you feel. Today, the most important race in this season is the one being held this weekend, and this is Champéry. I am in a good moment and I have to take advantage of it. I have to keep concentration on the World Cup and keep in mind that the overall classification is still opened; it is very difficult, but still possible. Apart from that, to keep my mind in those victory possibilities is the best way of keeping motivation and opening a bigger gap on those who are looking for that second position I have in the overall standings”.
