José Hermida is the man of the day at Pietermaritzburg’s Worldcup opener of the mountain bikers. He wins a thrilling race after having accelerated in the fifth lap, thus exposing the limitations of both Olympic champion Julien Absalon and local hero Burry Stander by dropping them. «Two years without a Worldcup win have been a long time. But now I’m back in business, and that sure is a good feeling», Hermida commented on his victory.

Una carrera expectacular, en donde exceptuando en la salida, el de Puigcerdá siempre ha estado delante. Ha controlado a sus rivales y en la vuelta 3 ha tirado fuerte, siendo el culpable de la rotura de la carrera. Con él, Absalon i el local Stander. Pero esta vez, el del MULTIVAN MERIDA ha estado genial y con las fuerzas necesarias para distanciarse del galo hasta tener 32 segundos de diferencia. La victoria no se le ha escapado. Un buen inicio para el curso 2009.
