The spanish cyclist José Antonio Hermida was unable to win a medal in the Olympic race in Bejing after finishing in tenth place. For most of the race Hermida kept with the front runners, however on the 4th and 6th circuits he fell back to 16th place. Hermida did what he could to recuperate his lost position and managed to regain ground to finish the race in tenth place.
This was not a race in which José felt comfortable. The start was impressive, with a frenetic rhythm marked by Swiss riders Sausser and Vogel, while behind them were the group of favourites including our own Jose.
The route itself filtered out the riders on its own. Hermida was in the second group, between 8th and 10th position. However the 4th, 5th and 6th circuits were tough for the man from La Cerdaña. His worst moment of the race came when he fell back to 16th place, however Jose did not and give up hope and managed to regain strength on the last two circuits. With his rivals at a considerable distance, the MULTIVAN MÉRIDA rider managed to increase his rhythm to finally reposition himself once more, among the top ten.
