The current Spanish champion was already in second place on the last lap but a chain breakage left him without a chance to climb the podium. Hermida had to run approximately two kilometres before reaching the tech zone, where they were unable to repair the chain immediately. The repair lost him between 5 and 6 minutes. From there to the final he was only able to pass two riders before crossing the line in 24th place.

This has meant that any chances of a position on the German podium have completely disappeared. However José Antonio appeared satisfied with his race, with the words “although it is difficult to believe, I am very satisfied with the race I’ve run. I was up at the front, I felt very comfortable, and had better feelings than when I was in Belgium, but I was unlucky breaking the chain when I had just passed one of the tech zones, which meant that as I couldn’t go back I had to run almost two kilometres to the next point on the circuit in order to solve the problem. I have never had technical problems before, and now this happens, that’s racing”.
